No obvous reason. Works fine with kernel 2.6.10

It is a new one.

Btw, when it boots _without_ this option is there any messages from
i8042 or ACPI?

Ok, your BIOS is also reporting incorrect port values for the keyboard
controller, it should be 0x60, 0x64. You'll have to use i8042.noacpi
for now.
