This patch series adds support for Diolan USB-I2C/GPIO Master Adapter
DLN-2. Details about device can be found here:

Changes since v7:

 * MFD: add results parameter to dln2_transfer to allow receiving the
   hardware result code; also fix dln2_transfer to return error only
   if the result code is > 0x80;

 * GPIO: update to the new dln2_transfer API

 * I2C: update to the new dln2_transfer API, use DECLARE_BITMAP, use
   new_cb as a variable name instead of new, update the Kconfig help
   to mentioned DLN2_I2C and DLN2_GPIO, remove i2c_setup as it is not
   useful anymore after removing the frequency code

Changes since v6:

* MFD: make sure DLN2_HANDLE_EVENT stays 0, move a few operations out
  of the lock block, renamed one missed _rx_callback function to
  _event_callback, speed-up disconnect by checking for it in
  find_free_slot, remove the URB submit helper and simplify URB
  resubmit code, use mfd_add_hotplug_devices, change the driver name
  to dln2 (from usb-dln2), initialize disconnect_lock

* GPIO: no changes

* I2C: keep sorting in Kconfig and Makefile, add warning for transfers
  bigger then DLN2_I2C_MAX_XFER_SIZE, remove frequency code - I will
  send a separate patch that moves this to i2c core, revert to using
  tx structures for dln2_i2c_enable

This patch implements the USB part of the Diolan USB-I2C/SPI/GPIO
Master Adapter DLN-2. Details about the device can be found here:

Information about the USB protocol can be found in the Programmer's
Reference Manual [1], see section 1.7.

Because the hardware has a single transmit endpoint and a single
receive endpoint the communication between the various DLN2 drivers
and the hardware will be muxed/demuxed by this driver.

Each DLN2 module will be identified by the handle field within the DLN2
message header. If a DLN2 module issues multiple commands in parallel
they will be identified by the echo counter field in the message header.

The DLN2 modules can use the dln2_transfer() function to issue a
command and wait for its response. They can also register a callback
that is going to be called when a specific event id is generated by
the device (e.g. GPIO interrupts). The device uses handle 0 for
sending events.

This patch adds support for the Diolan DLN-2 I2C master module. Due
to hardware limitations it does not support SMBUS quick commands.

Information about the USB protocol interface can be found in the
Programmer's Reference Manual [1], see section 6.2.2 for the I2C
master module commands and responses.

Some GPIO chips (e.g. the DLN2 USB adapter) have blocking get/set
operation but do not need a threaded irq handler.

This patch adds GPIO and IRQ support for the Diolan DLN-2 GPIO module.

Information about the USB protocol interface can be found in the
Programmer's Reference Manual [1], see section 2.9 for the GPIO
module commands and responses.

with the GPIO reviews recently), but does this optimization bring a
significant benefit that justifies adding another field in struct
gpio_chip? If so it would be nice to have it in the commit message. If
not, do we need this at all?

Hi Alexandre,

In the case DLN2 USB GPIO adapter the GPIO interrupt is generated in
the completion routine of a receive URB, which means that we are in
interrupt context. If a threaded irq is used, we would have to
schedule work instead of running to interrupt handler directly which
is unnecessary and adds latency.

BTW, AFAIC Linus W already merged this patch in his next tree, I am
keeping it in this series because it was not pulled in the mfd-next
tree.

Why add yet another parameter for the result and then never even use it?
Please remove it. You can add a new function for it (and a wrapper)
later if it's ever needed.

You should also consider adding a convenience function for when you
don't care about any returned data (e.g. dln2_transfer_tx) so you don't
have to pass all those NULLs (most calls currently have three NULL
params).

It's good practise to clear any data structure at allocation. The cost
