* [PATCH 0/6] Add Armada 3700 COMPHY support @ 2018-11-22 21:04 Miquel Raynal 2018-11-22 21:04 ` [PATCH 1/6] phy: enumerate SATA PHY mode Miquel Raynal ` (5 more replies) 0 siblings, 6 replies; 10+ messages in thread From: Miquel Raynal @ 2018-11-22 21:04 UTC (permalink / raw) To: Gregory Clement, Jason Cooper, Andrew Lunn, Sebastian Hesselbarth, Kishon Vijay Abraham I Cc: devicetree, linux-arm-kernel, linux-kernel, Rob Herring, Mark Rutland, Miquel Raynal Hello, This series adds a new driver to support Armada 3700 COMPHY IP. The series has been tested on an ESPRESSObin with SATA, PCIe and USB3 host. For this purpose, patch 1 enumerates the SATA PHY mode. The SGMII PHY mode that is supported by the IP has been written (uses SMC calls anyway) but could not be tested on this platform. Three series will follow to add PHY support (or at least a PHY nodes in the A3700/ESPRESSObin device trees) to the MVEBU AHCI driver, the Aardvark PCI controller driver and the MVEBU xHCI driver. All this is needed in order to achieve suspend to RAM on this platform. In this case, I wonder what is the appropriate behavior. Here I just return the error; this means drivers may fail to probe when enabling their PHY. Shall I ignore a "not supported by the firmware" code and return 0 to the caller (with a printed warning) so it will continue probing? Doing so is lying as the PHY might not be configured as expected and S2RAM will always fail in this case. Thanks, Miquèl ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 10+ messages in thread

It works only the first time the consumer gets a PHY for this lane. If the consumer put the PHY (module is unloaded) and then gets the PHY again (module is re-loaded a second time), the port is already set to != -1 and this will exit with an error and prevent the module to probe. > + > + lane->port = args->args[0]; I will remove the above check and transform it into a valid "port" value right here. Also add an example of how to use this second compatible (same as for the ESPRESSObin). While doing so, enhance a bit the file by adding upper case where needed.
