My more  operational line of thinking is to treat each local variable
as if it was a machine register, then analyze based on hardware control

Stores to and reloads from shared variables would be handled as they
are now, correct?

My guess is that this turns out to be equivalent to your intuition,
but this stuff can be tricky.
