Hi,
Today I tried upgrading to 2.6.28-rc1-git1 (-rc1 couldn't even mount the
disk).
I'm having some problems with it :)

1) Whenever I try to unload (rmmod or modprobe -r) *any* modules (even
if not used), the system hangs.
I can still move the mouse and see the cursor moving, but I can't type,
can't switch console, nothing.
Because of this, I can't shutdown the system properly because it hangs
when "Unloading ALSA modules"

2) Sometimes (randomly it seems) the system doesn't detect any usb devices:
I have an external HD and a Logitech mouse. Sometimes they are
recognized, sometimes not.
Unplugging and re-plugging them doesn't help. lsusb shows no attached
device.

3) Sometimes (randomly) the wireless doesn't work: it can associate to
the AP,
but it can't receive an IP in any way: both dhcp and static ip don't work.
The rate is fixed to 1Mb/s, instead of 54, and changing it manually
doesn't work.
Restarting the wifi service doesn't help.
Reloading the module isn't an option, because of 1)

There can be different combinations of 2) and 3):
- wifi works / usb doesn't
- disk is recognized / mouse isn't
- everything works (rarely), etc...

4) Applications that use sound don't work:
-Mozilla Thunderbird freezes whenever I receive a message
-Amarok crashes at start
-mplayer doesn't work
The thing is, if I try to kill them, I can't, no matter what.
KSysguard says they are in "disk sleep", see:
http://i34.tinypic.com/eg390j.png

None of these problems are present in 2.6.27.2 and previous.
My .config is very similar to 2.6.27.2 (see the diff below).

Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6400.

If rmmod never returns, alt-sysrq-t output should show us where it got
stuck.

Compiling with CONFIG_USB_DEBUG and sending report to
linux-usb@vger.kernel.org with the output included might be a good start.

Thanks for your answer
I tried Alt-Sysrq-T after a rmmod, but all I get is:
"SysRq : Show State"

Is it normal? Does it dump the information to a log?
Sorry but I never used sysrq in the past.

You propably have to set the loglevel to something higher before. Either use
dmesg -n 6 or so or sysrq-6.

I had a look through it yesterday, but found nothing obvious. Here is
just a part of the strace I saved "strace -s 256 -f thunderbird -o
TB.out". The crash offers quit or restart thunderbird - crash happens
again for restart.
