Upon issuing "mount -avt nonfs" at boot, my machine oopsed while mounting
the last partition in the fstab. mount seg faulted, but all the file
systems did end up mounted. The machine kept running after that, but I'm
taking it back to the previous kernel (2.4.7-ac8), just to be safe. It is
reproducable. I rebooted just to check, and got the same oops.

USB problem. Looks like dev->bus has a wild value in new_dev_inode().
>From a quick scan I don't see any changes in ac8->ac9 which could cause
this. Please, work back through kernel versions until it goes away and
let us know.

Sure enough, I mount /proc and /proc/bus/usb after the last disc
partition.

Yep, the oops persisted in 2.4.8-ac8, but went away as I went back to
-ac7.

ac8 has further superblock updates, I wonder if those are what ticklets it.

Can you try 2.4.8ac7 with the 2.4.8ac8 drivers/usb and include/linux/usb*
changes ?

If Im right it wont oops

Okay I trimmed intermediate patch patch-2.4.8-ac7-ac8 down to just this:

patching file drivers/usb/CDCEther.c
patching file drivers/usb/Config.in
patching file drivers/usb/Makefile
patching file drivers/usb/catc.c
patching file drivers/usb/hp5300.c
patching file drivers/usb/hp5300.h
patching file drivers/usb/hpusbscsi.c
patching file drivers/usb/hpusbscsi.h
patching file drivers/usb/kaweth.c
patching file drivers/usb/pegasus.c
patching file drivers/usb/usb.c
patching file include/linux/usb.h

> If Im right it wont oops

Nope, it did oops. Looks pretty much same too.
