* 2.5 Problem Report Status for 10 Nov @ 2002-11-10 16:31 Thomas Molina 2002-11-10 17:02 ` Russell King ` (6 more replies) 0 siblings, 7 replies; 10+ messages in thread From: Thomas Molina @ 2002-11-10 16:31 UTC (permalink / raw) To: linux-kernel I apologize for not being able to get a report out last week; I'm in the middle of a career change (anyone need a system administrator?). I've (mostly) kept up with traffic, but there are a lot of older items I've not been able to close out. The latest version of this list is kept at: http://members.cox.net/tmolina/kernprobs/status.html It will remain there until mid-December when I move and lose Cox internet access. I'll be moving to tmolina@copper.net which is a dialup with no web page included (They are Linux-friendly though - they don't require special software). I haven't decided yet whether to get a domain and a web-hosting service, although there are some out there which don't cost much for minimal storage. I'm hoping most of the older items can be closed out or eliminated. I'm sending a bcc to each with a report on the list. 2.5 Kernel Problem Reports as of 10 Nov Status Discussion Problem Title open 24 Oct 2002 AIC7XXX boot failure 1. There are too many variables that changed around the time that the serial code went in to allow the cause to be isolated. > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > open 15 Oct 2002 oops stopping serial > 36. http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=103470900729987&w=2 Fixed. > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > open 24 Oct 2002 serial driver bug with asus motherboard > 67. http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=103548912126308&w=2 Awaiting feedback from Andrew Walrond; the code as of 2.5.46 allows better remote debugging of wrong/mis-detections. > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > open 07 Nov 2002 odd deref in serial_in > 84. http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=103647077515688&w=2 Not my problem - it looks like something else is trampling on %ebx, although Zwane/myself are at a loss to locate the cause of that. (%ebx = "up" pointer, which must have been valid a few instructions previous to even get to this point in the code. Could it be a compiler bug?) -- Russell King (rmk@arm.linux.org.uk) The developer of ARM Linux http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/personal/aboutme.html ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 10+ messages in thread

I have updates that will fix some stuff, not this one. I know why this occurs. Its trivial to make it go away, it requires some major work to make it go away properly in the context of SATA and hotswap. The latest patches split the ide registratio code from the ide i/o code. Its now possible to read all the registration code in one place. I'm now commenting it ready to rip it to shreds. And yes now ide.c in 2.5.47-ac1 is basically just the registration code it must qualify for some of the ugliest code in the kernel ;) ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 10+ messages in thread
