Xilinx MIPI CSI-2 Receiver Subsystem
------------------------------------

The Xilinx MIPI CSI-2 Receiver Subsystem Soft IP consists of a DPHY which
gets the data, an optional I2C, a CSI-2 Receiver which parses the data and
converts it into AXIS data.
This stream output maybe connected to a Xilinx Video Format Bridge.
The maximum number of lanes supported is fixed in the design.
The number of active lanes can be programmed.
For e.g. the design may set maximum lanes as 4 but if the camera sensor has
only 1 lane then the active lanes shall be set as 1.

The pixel format set in design acts as a filter allowing only the selected
data type or RAW8 data packets. The D-PHY register access can be gated in
the design. The base address of the DPHY depends on whether the internal
Xilinx I2C controller is enabled or not in design.

The device driver registers the MIPI CSI2 Rx Subsystem as a V4L2 sub device
having 2 pads. The sink pad is connected to the MIPI camera sensor and
output pad is connected to the video node.
Refer to xlnx,csi2rxss.txt for device tree node details.

This driver helps configure the number of active lanes to be set, setting
and handling interrupts and IP core enable. It logs the number of events
occurring according to their type between streaming ON and OFF.
It generates a v4l2 event for each short packet data received.
The application can then dequeue this event and get the requisite data
from the event structure.

It adds new V4L2 controls which are used to get the event counter values
and reset the subsystem.

The Xilinx CSI-2 Rx Subsystem outputs an AXI4 Stream data which can be
used for image processing. This data follows the video formats mentioned
in Xilinx UG934 when the Video Format Bridge is enabled.

Add bindings documentation for Xilinx MIPI CSI-2 Rx Subsystem.

The Xilinx MIPI CSI-2 Rx Subsystem consists of a CSI-2 Rx controller, a
DPHY in Rx mode, an optional I2C controller and a Video Format Bridge.

+Xilinx MIPI CSI2 Receiver Subsystem Device Tree Bindings

+The Xilinx MIPI CSI2 Receiver Subsystem is used to capture MIPI CSI2 traffic
+from compliant camera sensors and send the output as AXI4 Stream video data
+for image processing.
+
+The subsystem consists of a MIPI DPHY in slave mode which captures the
+data packets. This is passed along the MIPI CSI2 Rx IP which extracts the
+packet data. The optional Video Format Bridge (VFB) converts this data to
+AXI4 Stream video data.
+
+For more details, please refer to PG232 Xilinx MIPI CSI-2 Receiver Subsystem.

+Required properties:
+--------------------
+- compatible: Must contain "xlnx,mipi-csi2-rx-subsystem-4.0".
+- reg: Physical base address and length of the registers set for the device.
+- interrupts: Property with a value describing the interrupt number.
+- clocks: List of phandles to AXI Lite and Video clocks.
+- clock-names: Must contain "lite_aclk" and "video_aclk" in the same order
+  as clocks listed in clocks property.
+- xlnx,csi-pxl-format: This denotes the CSI Data type selected in hw design.
+  Packets other than this data type (except for RAW8 and User defined data

+The port@0 is a sink port and shall connect to CSI2 source like camera.
+It must have the data-lanes property.

+The port@1 is a source port and can be connected to any video processing IP
+which can work with AXI4 Stream data.

The Xilinx MIPI CSI-2 Rx Subsystem soft IP is used to capture images
from MIPI CSI-2 camera sensors and output AXI4-Stream video data ready
for image processing. Please refer to PG232 for details.

The driver is used to set the number of active lanes, if enabled
in hardware. The CSI2 Rx controller filters out all packets except for
the packets with data type fixed in hardware. RAW8 packets are always
allowed to pass through.

It is also used to setup and handle interrupts and enable the core. It
logs all the events in respective counters between streaming on and off.
The generic short packets received are notified to application via
v4l2_events.

The driver supports only the video format bridge enabled configuration.
Some data types like YUV 422 10bpc, RAW16, RAW20 are supported when the
CSI v2.0 feature is enabled in design. When the VCX feature is enabled,
the maximum number of virtual channels becomes 16 from 4.

What's the use case for this? I read in an earlier thread that this is
used to prevent the driver from loading.

The bindings document hardware, therefore a V4L2 control name doesn't
belong here.

If you want to set the number of lanes at runtime, the frame descriptors
are probably the best way to do that. The patchset will be merged in the
near future. Jacopo sent the last iteration of it recently. I'd leave that
feature out for now though: few transmitter drivers support the feature
(using an old API).

Hi Vishal,

Do you also include a driver for the DPHY ? Namely I am interested in 
something which can comply to the PHY subsystem specifications, so it 
can be referenced by possibly other nodes ?

Something like this:

No the DPHY driver isn't included now as the DPHY register interface can be optionally enabled.
But the idea is to add that kind of support in future.

This property ensures that the data being sent on the media bus complies with
existing formats. If Video Format Bridge (VFB) is disabled, then the data is sent on the bus in the
same way as it is received. For e.g. with RAW10 with bus width of 32 bits, the first clock
cycle will contain the MSB 8bits of 4 pixels.
The lower 2 bits of each pixel will be sent on the next clock.

When VFB is enabled, the input data stream is processed based on the CSI Data Type and
Pixels per clock selected in design and then sent out.
For e.g. for RAW10 with 2 pixels per clock and VFB enabled, the bus will have pixel 0 data 
on 9:0 and pixel 1 data on 19:10. Upper bits on the bus will be zeros.

It looks like this patch set is trying to add support for virtual channel number and data type association.
This is different from controlling number of lanes on which CSI Rx will receive data.

I'm to blame here as I suggested that text. However I still find the
original wording was ambiguous: my initial reading of it was close to
the opposite of the intended meaning. xlnx,en-active-lanes means "a
register exists to configure the active lanes at runtime" and I just
care that this is stated clearly and unambiguously.

If we cannot mention a control name here, why not just dropping it:

- xlnx,en-active-lanes: present if the number of active lanes can be
  reconfigured at runtime in the Protocol Configuration Register.
  Otherwise all lanes are always active.

So... should I read this as if it determines whether the IP block unpacks
the pixels? If so, the description is at least inaccurate: remember this
isn't specific to Linux.

There's nothing wrong in not unpacking it; it just means the formats will
be different. The property name seems sensible IMO.

So far I'm familiar with two cases. In the firstc case, the number of lanes
is determined by what is connected on the board. This is naturally
supported. The second one is that in some cases, a device is not able to
use all the connected lanes. This can be supported using the frame
descriptors through the receiver querying the transmitter device's frame
descriptor.

That part is indeed meant to add support for VC, but on top of that
series I recently sent:
"[RFC 0/5] media: Implement negotiation of CSI-2 data lanes"
where support for the negotiation of CSI-2 data lanes is implemented.

As you can see it's still RFC, so I would apreciate any input you
might have :)
