Hi,

QDEV_PROP_PTR is marked in multiple places as "FIXME/TODO/remove
me". In most cases, it can be easily replaced with QDEV_PROP_LINK when
the pointer points to an Object.

There are a few places where such substitution isn't possible. For
those places, it seems reasonable to use a specific setter method
instead, and keep the user_creatable = false. In other places,
proper usage of qemu_irq is the solution.

The serial code wasn't converted to qdev, which makes it a bit more
archaic to deal with. Let's convert it first, so we can more easily
embed it from other devices, and expose properties.

Internally, qemu may create chardev without ID. Those will not be
looked up with qemu_chr_find(), which prevents using qdev_prop_set_chr().

Use id_generate(), to generate an internal name (prefixed with #), so
no conflict exist with user-named chardev.

Make SerialState a non-bus device (not instantiable with qdev_create).

None of the serial_{,mm}_init() callers actually free the returned
value (even if they did, it would be quite harmless), so we can change
the object allocation at will.

However, the devices that embed SerialState must now have their field
QOM-initialized manually (isa, pci, pci-multi).

etraxfs_dma_client are not Object, so can't be exposed to user with
QOM path. Let's remove property usage and move the constructor to the
.c unit, simplifying some code on the way.

Link property is the correct way to pass a MemoryRegion to a device
for DMA purposes.

Sidenote: as a sysbus device, this remains non-usercreatable
even though we can drop the specific flag here.

"set_pin_in" property is used to define a callback mechanism where the
device says "call the callback function, passing it an opaque cookie
and a 32-bit value". We already have a generic mechanism for doing
that, which is the qemu_irq. So we should just use that.

There is no "saar" property. Note: I haven't been able to test this

Instead of accessing cpu interrupt vector directly from PIC, send the
vector value over the qemu_irq.

Since clocks are not QOM objects, replace PROP_PTR of clocks with
setters methods.

(in theory there should probably be different methods for omap1 &
omap2 intc, but this is left as a future improvement)

PROP_MEMORY_REGION was a derivative of PROP_PTR, added in commit
ed03d749f3f513b8fb0287757cfda2cb6825f063 (qdev: add MemoryRegion
property) and thankfully no longer needed since commit
3eff40dbf44896a8180c86c84dbdefb2eb173fbe (hw/misc: Remove
mmio_interface device).

Devices shouldn't have properties to set their MMIO base
address -- instead the memory-mapped serial device should
be a child of TYPE_SYSBUS_DEVICE, and should provide
a sysbus mmio region, which users of the device can
map at the address they want to map the registers.

This function isn't needed if you make SerialMMState a sysbus
device which provides the MMIO region and the IRQ in the
usual way.

Can we make serial a sysbus device? It seems to be embedded from
various places, in various buses. Not sure that makes sense, please
advise me :)

"base" is mostly needed to set qdev_set_legacy_instance_id(), I should
have added a commit comment. Otherwise, it can be passed to
serial_mm_connect() directly.

You want the SerialMMState to be is-a sysbus-device, and to
has-a SerialState, I think.

serial_mm_connect() shouldn't exist at all, though -- we
want to end up with a normal sysbus device whose users
create it and wire up its MMIO and IRQ in the same way they
do any other sysbus device.

All the callers to smbus_eeprom_init_one() allocate the
memory for the initial data, populate it, pass the pointer
to smbus_eeprom_init_one() and do not save the pointer
anyway. So we effectively "own" the data -- we could choose
to copy the data and make the callers free the memory instead.

I'd still like to know what the right QOM way to pass
256 bytes of constant data to a device as a property is.

A property with a uint list visitor is the closest thing we have I
guess. We can probably have a specialized QObject to hold a fixed
array, but string form will probably remain a list, I guess.

I can try that, but this is quite complicated to pass 256 bytes internally..
