The patch below does not apply to the 4.19-stable tree.
If someone wants it applied there, or to any other stable or longterm
tree, then please email the backport, including the original git commit
id to <stable@vger.kernel.org>.

thanks,

Subject: [PATCH] spi: bcm2835: Fix use-after-free on unbind

bcm2835_spi_remove() accesses the driver's private data after calling
spi_unregister_controller() even though that function releases the last
reference on the spi_controller and thereby frees the private data.

Fix by switching over to the new devm_spi_alloc_master() helper which
keeps the private data accessible until the driver has unbound.

Below please find the backport of e1483ac030fb to linux-4.19.y.

Be aware that it depends on commit 5e844cc37a5c ("spi: Introduce
device-managed SPI controller allocation").

Thanks!

This backport is also applicable to 4.14-stable and 4.9-stable,
as is the one I sent out for spi-bcm2835aux.c as well as the backport
of 666224b43b4b.

Thanks,

Lukas

Same for 4.4-stable. As a prerequisite, this requires the 4.9 backport of
5e844cc37a5c ("spi: Introduce device-managed SPI controller allocation")
which I sent out today.

Thanks,

Lukas
