Hello all,

Here is the proposal for the Network Settings GUI:
https://ibm.invisionapp.com/share/8ENYRVXAPFD#/319115961_Physical
To navigate, click on any flashing blue rectangles or use the right and
left keyboard arrows.

The design is based on the needs found by our research with stakeholders
and users.

With the GUI, a user is able to assign a Fully Qualified Domain Name
(FQDN), and choose either DHCP or static configuration, for any selected
interface.

If DHCP is chosen, the GUI will reflect the appropriate default gateway,
DNS server, and IP address assigned by the DHCP server. If static is
selected, users manually assign the default gateway, as well as multiple
DNS servers and a single IP address (not including the one assigned by
zeroconf).

Despite the type of configuration selected (DHCP or static),
zero-configuration is always on to protect the user and ensure there is
always an IP address assigned. However, once an interface has a non
zeroconf IP address assigned, users have the flexibility to permanently
delete that address. Currently, users can only temporarily delete these
using CLI; once they reboot, the addresses come back. Permanently removing
IP addresses assigned by zero-configuration is important to customers who
need to account for every single IP address.

NOTE: The reason for limiting to a single IP address per interface is that
our research from users and stakeholders indicates that multiple would
never be used and in fact it could make it easy to make a mistake, so for
this reason we will not support it in the GUI. Additionally, there will be
no support for VLAN as it was not expected by users and added unnecessary
confusion.

Regards,
Jandra Aranguren

Hi Jandra,
Sorry for late reply. I had read https://gerrit.openbmc-project.xyz/c/openbmc/phosphor-webui/+/24317 , I saw the calling of redfish in api-ulti.js . I wonder if the ipv6 has been done in this BMC system. Would you like to tell me the ipv6 support schedule of bmc OS?

Thanks for your reply.

Hi Ruixia,

I want to point you to the Gerrit commit for the Network Settings design supporting only IPV4. It would be great for you to review the code and familiarize yourself with the structure so that once this is merged, implementing the IPV6 design is fast and easy.

Hi Ruixia,

Thanks for the clarification. I wanted to let you know we are still working on this and hoping to get it to you all as soon as we can. I want to make sure we are understanding the requirements for Lenovo:

- Need the ability to support both IPV4 and IPV6 simultaneously on a single interface.
- In the case the both IPV4 and IPV6 are enabled in a single interface, zero-configuration cannot assign addresses to either.
- The format for IPV6 DNS servers is the same as IPV6 IP addresses. Do each of these also have a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)?
- Only two IP addresses maximum (in addition to those provided by zero-config, if any) will be supported per interface. If there are two, one must be IPV4 and one must be IPV6.
- For IPV6, we will support either DHCP or static configurations, not both at the same time on the same interface. Same applies for IPV6, though IPV4 can be different from IPV6.

Thank you for your patience with us.

when both IPV4 and IPV6 are enabled and DHCP is disabled and the user input nothing to IPV4 and IPV6 address input box (zeroconf),in this case,it shall not to assign any IP address to bmc network device, the webui should give an error tips to users.

It only works when the user input the correct format IP address.
PS:Having a check box to enable ipv4 and ipv6 configuration would be better.

it will be similar with the picture below, maybe.

Ruixia -- I am waiting on a couple of responses from our backend team to be able to provide a design that aligns with how the functionality is developed.

Ratan -- I'm helping create the design mockup for including IPV6 in the Network settings panel so that Lenovo can do the front-end implementation. Do you know if the work your team was doing for this will be merged to the master soon?

I have some questions I am hoping you can help answer for this IPV6 design:
- What happens to zeroconf when both IPV4 and IPV6 are enabled? Does it try to assign an IP address to both (in the case that DHCP doesn't give either) or does it only assign either an IPV4 IP address or an IPV6 IP address?
- What is the format of IPV6 DNS servers? Is that also in the format of an IPV6 IP address?

I have built the latest openbmc project image by adding the option "ipv6" in the term DISTRO_FEATURES_DEFAULT in the file /meta-phosphor/conf/distro/include/phosphor-base.inc. I can ping the openbmc IPV6 IP successfully, but cannot login to it by openssh command.
It seemed that there are some works on openbmc embedded OS to support IPV6.
Another issue from Ruixia is the IPV6 Dbus Interfaces design, I found there are some IPV6 rest-Dbus or Redfish interfaces on yaml files available. I don' t know is it enough to the IPV6 webui.

Ratan, would you be able to help Ruixia and Xiuzhi with this?

Hi Xiuzhi and Ruixia,

It would be great to set some time to align on the requirements from design and how to work together so that your team can start on the so front-end development.

Like Derick said, we meet every other Wednesday at 10:00 Central time to discuss GUI issues, with the next one being next Wednesday (July 3rd). Hopefully you can make that.

If you cannot, I am happy to meet at 7:00 or 8:00 AM Central time this Wednesday (June 26th) or Friday (June 28th). Please let me know.

Hi , Derick!
I'd like to work on IPV6 functionality of phosphor-webui and start to impliment it on the phosphor-webui.
would you please show me the design that was originally completed for the previous layout?

And ,how to proposal my code to webui project ,would you like to tell me detail?

Hello ruxia, sun!

We have started work on the webui-vue GUI that will expect to be a replacement for phosphor-webui. The IPv6 functionality is not ready for the webui-vue GUI because we are transitioning from the REST API to Redfish. If you are interested in adding the functionality to phosphor-webui, I can look for the design that was originally completed for the previous layout. Is that something you are interested in?

Thank you!

Hi Derick,
My team has confirmed that the Openbmc backend has supported IPV6 on version v28, I am going to implement the ipv6 configuration in webui (with angularJS),would you please tell me the UX prototype design of webui for IPV6 is ok? I have signed the Cooperation and Contribution License Agreement.
BTW:How to proposal my code to webui project ,would you like to tell me detail?

Jandra is no longer working on this project and the IBM design team is working on a new version of the GUI written in Vue.js. We are just starting to talk about IPv6 again and I do think it may be ready. I see that Ratan is on this mail thread and he should be able to specify for sure if the backend supporting IPv6 is ready.

Thanks,
Derick
