REGRESSION: Qt5 EGLFS support is broken 3.10.53-1.1.x and 3.14.28-1.0.x GPU

Hello,

We have some customers which are migrating from Dizzy for Fido. Some
uses Qt5 applications in EGLFS mode and we found a serious regression,
every EGLFS application is returning:

EGL Error : Could not create the egl surface: error = 0x3003

Using 3.10.17, from Dizzy, very same application works fine.

To reproduce:

 - fsl-community-bsp - fido
 - add meta-qt5
 - generate an image with cinematicexperience and qtbase-plugins included
 - run the app passing "-platform eglfs"

To narrow down the issue to the BSP, the meta-qt5 fido branch was used
for both tests (Qt5 5.4.2).

Does some faced the same issue?

FWIW:

Have trouble with qtwayland examples on eglfs. Because my qtwayland is
close to 5.5 I thought do test with cinematicexperience as described
above.

master meta-qt5 / kernel 3.14.28 / master fsl-arm works without issues @60fps.

I need EGLFS on mx6, does this question mean there are issues with fido and
that I should stick with dizzy for now?

It seems I was the only one seeing this failure and I couldn't yet get
back to debug this. We are finishing a demo and this will be upgraded
for Fido just after it is finished and will than debug this at that
time.

I'm trying generate  an image using Yocto 1.8 - Fido , MACHINE
=colibri-imx6,

I will try to compile the fsl-image-multimedia-full, with X11 to test if

You likely use a 3.10.17 kernel which does not work with the Vivante
userspace binaries provided with the Fido branch of meta-fsl-arm.
For Fido you would need a the 3.10.53 or 3.14.28 based kernel which is
not ready for your machine.

Qt5CinematicExperience with 3.14.38 beta?

Running Qt5CinematicExperience with imx6dq+ 3.10.38 beta, but I get this:

root@imx6qpsabreauto:~# Qt5_CinematicExperience -platform wayland
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the 
Qt platform plugin "wayland".

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
/usr/bin/Qt5_CinematicExperience: line 4:   710 Aborted 
/usr/share/cinematicexperience-1.0/Qt5_CinematicExperience $*

All I did was add this to my local.conf file:

IMAGE_INSTALL_append = " cinematicexperience "

I assumed it would pull in all the necessary pkgs, but apparently 
something is missing. Does anyone have experience with this ( maybe with 
a previous BSP/imx6 ) that they can share?

Those backends are available in qtbase-plugins package.

I do already see what I need in 
tmp/sysroots/imx6qpsabreauto/usr/lib/qt5/plugins/platforms, but they 
just don't make it into my tmp/deploy/images...

Hi Otavio,

I have been facing issue with EGLFS in QT5, I am also using fido branch for
QT5 and the kernel built is 3.10.17 for imx6q board from freescale.

The video widget example application was not running videos properly
specially videos with high definition. There were lot of warnings saying "A
lot of buffers are dropped". This problem while using EGLFS and linuxfb.
Then i built and installed the QTgstreamer package which has a different
implementation for creating video surfaces. The example player application
in QT-gstreamer works fine for X11 windowing system and Linuxfb, the videos
are played smoothly, but when i try to run the same example application with
EGLFS it crashes and no error message is displayed. I tried enabling debug
messages but no luck.

There is more involved in what you describes:

 - gstreamer
 - qtmultimedia
 - qtbase

Qt 5.4 does not has support for GStreamer1.0 natively, there is a
patch[1] for it.

For our customers needing GStreamer we have made a custom QtMultimedia
5.5 to work against Qt 5.4 and this proved to be working fine for our
customers; I don't remember exactly what issues we had with the patch
but we eventually moved for a custom version for this set of
customers.

Should I try to build meta-qt5 master branch which  says qt5.5 has been ported or is it possible to find the recipe that you mentioned for custom qtmultimedia5.5

There is more involved in what you describes:

 - gstreamer
 - qtmultimedia
 - qtbase

Qt 5.4 does not has support for GStreamer1.0 natively, there is a patch[1] for it.

I am not sure; it all depends on many things so I think you need to
debug and see which solution works better for your customer.
