Hello

I am trying to compile kvm-kmod-devel-88.tar.gz with 2.6.31. Seems
there is a missing header file.

vger kvm-kmod-devel-88 # make

make -C /lib/modules/2.6.31-gentoo/build M=`pwd` \

                LINUXINCLUDE="-I`pwd`/include -Iinclude \

                 -Iarch/x86/include -I`pwd`/include-compat \

                -include include/linux/autoconf.h \

                -include `pwd`/x86/external-module-compat.h " \

                "$@"

I also tried pulling from git via:

git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/kvm-kmod.git
cd kvm-kmod
git submodule update --init
./configure --kerneldir=/usr/src/linux
make sync
make

still the same error.

is there a patch for 2.6.31 support?

thanks

This should fix it:

---------->

This unbreaks 2.6.31 builds but also ensures that we always use the most
recent one.

Here is a better approach:

diff --git a/include/arch/x86/kvm b/include/arch/x86/kvm

index 0000000..c635817
--- /dev/null
+++ b/include/arch/x86/kvm

\ No newline at end of file

I also pushed a kvm-kmod update for 2.6.31-based modules in my repos,
see

	git://git.kiszka.org/kvm-kmod.git queue

To use this one instead of devel-88, clone it and run

git submodule update --init
./configure
make sync
make

Ah, my fault. That's because your 'origin' is now kiszka.org. Go to
kvm-kmod/.git/config and update the submodule url to
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/kvm.git. Then do a 'git submodule
update' and proceed with the other steps.

I think (hope) that this is due to issues which are fixed in latest
kvm-kmod. Let us try to get the git version running first as it shall be
released as kvm-kmod-2.6.31 soon.

Hi Jan

ok thanks (sorry, new to git).

unfortunately, still getting the mmutrace.h failure (same error without
kerneldir):

vger kvm-kmod # git submodule update --init

OK, there was more git foo hidden behind "clone my tree": Once you
cloned it, you are still on the master branch. You then have to checkout
that 'queue' branch I was referring to:

.../kvm-kmod> git checkout -b queue origin/queue

Now you have to run 'git submodule update' once again as my queue uses a
different revision from kvm.git. But then everything should really work.

Jan

Aidan, were you able to solve this? I was having the same (original)
problem in Xubuntu 64-bits with a custom 2.6.31 kernel and kvm-88. I
still haven't tried Jan's patch (paper deadline at work) but I wanted
to know if you had made any progress.

Cheers,
Jorge

The kvm-kmod tree at git://git.kiszka.org/kvm-kmod.git (branch 'queue')
meanwhile contains patches that solved all Aidan's build problems.

But note: Even your customized 2.6.31 contains the very same KVM kernel
sources my tree is currently pulling in. So you could make your life
easier by simply compiling them along your kernel.

The kvm-kmod patches will become important again when we pull more
recent KVM sources that are not yet part of the latest kernel, at least
not part of the particular kernel one is forced to use (for whatever
reason).

Jan

Can you post them as patches please?

Do not meddle in the internals of kernels, for they are subtle and quick to panic.
