Hi all,

Changes since 20191022:

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 5530
 5340 files changed, 192671 insertions(+), 90844 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc, an allmodconfig for x86_64, a
multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a native build of tools/perf. After
the final fixups (if any), I do an x86_64 modules_install followed by
builds for x86_64 allnoconfig, powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit),
ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. And finally, a simple boot test of the powerpc
pseries_le_defconfig kernel in qemu (with and without kvm enabled).

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 310 trees (counting Linus' and 78 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

After receiving a report from kisskb for failures for m68k, looking at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/head/f3c452cfc59c817950b150b51ec2b33409d7640b/
and doing some testing, it looks like this construct is supported by gcc-7
and gcc-8, but not by gcc-4.6.3 and gcc-5. Don't know about gcc-6.

I guess that's a different problem than the misspelled PREFERED before the __attribute__.

Ack, will split up patch and resubmit, compiler differences make that
part of the cleanup unworkable.

I have removed that patch from the akpm tree for now.

Hi all,

Changes since 20141022:

The sound-asoc tree still had its build failure so I used the version from
next-20141020.

The akpm-current tree gained a conflict against the pm tree.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 969
 1089 files changed, 21364 insertions(+), 36533 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64 and a
multi_v7_defconfig for arm. After the final fixups (if any), it is also
built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and
allyesconfig (this fails its final link) and i386, sparc, sparc64 and arm
defconfig.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 225 trees (counting Linus' and 32 trees of patches
pending for Linus' tree).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

I should work if you go to:

	https://gitorious.org/thierryreding/linux-next

I decided against it because people were starting to actively use the
temporary location and I didn't want yet another change in URL to
prevent testing from happening.

My hope is that the next time Stephen needs a break, and provided that
I'd be able and willing to volunteer for the job again, we will be
better prepared and make the transition more seemless by using the
standard location to begin with.

WebGit URL?

Browsing "https://gitorious.org/thierryreding" gives me a...

"This Git object is too large to be displayed in the browser

Consider cloning the repository locally and look at the object there"

Thierry, you were talking about moving to a <kernel.org> address, what happened?

Build test results are a bit better than yesterday:
	total: 110 pass: 92 skipped: 4 fail: 14

For the qemu tests, the mips64 build still fails due to an unused variable
'usp' in arch/mips/include/asm/syscall.h, and the sh test crashes with
a NULL pointer access in ata_finalize_port_ops().

Detailed results are, as always, available at http://server.roeck-us.net:8010/builders.

Hi all,

I've uploaded today's linux-next tree to the master branch of the
repository below:

        git://gitorious.org/thierryreding/linux-next.git

A next-20131023 tag is also provided for convenience.

No new conflicts. I've fixed various build failures, so 32-bit and 64-bit
allmodconfigs build fine on x86. ARM and x86 default configurations also
build fine. Most of the patches to fix the build failures have been sent
to the respective maintainers.

Hi all,

Changes since 201201022:

New tree: drop-experimental

The xtensa tree lost its conflict.

The usb tree gained a build failure for which I reverted a commit.

The akpm tree gained 2 build failures for which I reverted some commits.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc,
sparc64 and arm defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 205 trees (counting Linus' and 26 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.
