Hi all,

Changes since 20191114:

The sound-asoc-fixes tree still had its build failure for which I reverted
a commit.

The clk tree gained conflicts against the tegra tree.

The pm tree gained a conflict against the printk tree.

The ftrace tree gained a conflict against the arm64 tree.

The pwm tree gained a conflict against the devicetree tree.

The y2038 tree lost its build failure.

The livepatching tree gained a conflict against the ftrace tree.

The pidfd tree gained a conflict against Linus' tree.

The hmm tree lost its build failure.

The akpm-current tree gained a build failure for which I reverted
a commit.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 10789
 9588 files changed, 429750 insertions(+), 197654 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc, an allmodconfig for x86_64, a
multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a native build of tools/perf. After
the final fixups (if any), I do an x86_64 modules_install followed by
builds for x86_64 allnoconfig, powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit),
ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. And finally, a simple boot test of the powerpc
pseries_le_defconfig kernel in qemu (with and without kvm enabled).

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 312 trees (counting Linus' and 78 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

on x86_64:

already reported and Josh supplied a fix (yet unmerged),
but this is still around:

kernel/exit.o: warning: objtool: __x64_sys_exit_group()+0x14: unreachable instruction

new AFAIK:

drivers/gpu/drm/bridge/cdns-dsi.o: warning: objtool: cdns_dsi_bridge_enable()+0x3e0: unreachable instruction

obj file for latter one is attached.

My apologies, I have a growing backlog of objtool fixes which I hope to
post next week.

This seems fishy. cdns_dsi_init_link() never returns, it always dies a
with UD2. I bet GCC decided that it always does a divide-by-zero, and
so it forces a crash as a result. Will try to dig deeper next week...

I haven't looked into it though, will check with Alasdair and/or others

I overlooked the original report probably because I was not CCed.

This is introduced by commit a4e893e802e6("thermal: cpu_cooling:
Migrate to using the EM framework") which adds the dependency of
ENERGY_MODEL for THERMAL_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR.

To fix this, it's better to make THERMAL_DEFAULT_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR
depends on THERMAL_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR instead.

Please confirm the problem is fixed by below patch.

Subject: [PATCH] thermal: fix a Kconfig warning

Currently, THERMAL_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR is selected by
THERMAL_DEFAULT_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR even if it has some unmet
dependencies.

This causes the Kconfig warning

Fix the problem by making THERMAL_DEFAULT_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR depends on
THERMAL_GOV_POWER_ALLOCATOR instead.
