I tried 2.4.21-pre5-ac3 but still I get the same problems, with what
settings did you compile the kernel?

I used these:

On: PROMISE PDC202{46|62|65|67} support
On: Special UDMA Feature
On: PROMISE PDC202{68|69|70|71|75|76|77} support

Off: Special FastTrak Feature
Off: Support for IDE Raid controllers (EXPERIMENTAL)

Yours sincerey, Jonathan Vardy

Switch this on and it should work ...

I do have Special FastTrak feature turned on as well.
I have also compiled support for IDE Raid + Promise RAID.

dmesg shows the drives at hde and hdg detected as UDMA(100).

ataraid/d0: ataraid/d0p1
Drive 0 is 43979 Mb (33 / 0)
Drive 1 is 43979 Mb (34 / 0)

Still I simply treat it as a Ultra-card and use /dev/hde and /dev/hdg in
a RAID1 config with 2 IBM 45Gb drives.
(though /dev/ataraid/d0p1 exists, something I wasn't aware I had choosen
to compile into the kernel )

"cat /proc/ide/pdc202xx" says both masters are running UDMA4 and that
the card is an Ultra100.

hdparm -tT /dev/md5 gives;
 Timing buffer-cache reads:	128 Mb in 0.29 seconds =441.38 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:	64 Mb in 1.77 seconds = 36.16 MB/sec

Good luck!

After many different kernels, here are my experiences so far:

The original red hat 9.0 2.4.20 kernel correctly identifies the drives on
the promise as UDMA(100).

The 2.4.21-pre7, 2.4.21-pre6, 2.4.21-pre5-ac3 do not detect the promise
correctly giving the following error:

ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override
with idebus=xx
PIIX4: IDE controller at PCI slot 00:04.1
PIIX4: chipset revision 1
PIIX4: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
    ide0: BM-DMA at 0xd800-0xd807, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio
    ide1: BM-DMA at 0xd808-0xd80f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
PDC20270: IDE controller at PCI slot 02:01.0
PDC20270: chipset revision 2
PDC20270: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
PDC20270: neither IDE port enabled (BIOS)
PDC20270: neither IDE port enabled (BIOS)

We compiled a version of 2.4.20 without modules but then it would detect all
the drives on the promise as UDMA(33)

Does anybody have know if the problem is in the kernel version or settings?

Yours sincerely, Jonathan Vardy

Hi, I can confirm with my experiences with both Ultra and Fasttrak under
recent 2.4.20+ kernels fail detecting more than UDMA33 on these cards.

Without knowing the cause or fix for it I instead run ac-patches.
The card(s) are than configured correctly.
I now run 2.4.21pre5ac3 and I remember 2.4.21pre4ac4 also worked fine.

Cheers!

Better results but doen anybody know why 2.4.21pre6 can't detect it
right?

Hi,

I am having trouble getting my promise fasttrak TX4 running with Red
Hat. I am using kerner 2.4.21-pre6 compiled with

PROMISE PDC202{46|62|65|67} support
Special UDMA Feature
PROMISE PDC202{68|69|70|71|75|76|77} support

But without Special FastTrak Feature and Support for IDE Raid
controllers (EXPERIMENTAL)

While booting I get the following results:

ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override with
idebus=xx

As you can see the Promise card is not functioning at all. Doen anyone
have any ideas why it is not functioning?

Thanks, Jonathan Vardy
