Atul,

It depends on what they change and how extensively they have been tested.

Are they in 2.6 already?

Oh indeed I missed it.

Applied thanks

Xose is correct. His patch should indeed be applied to the
latest bk tree so the megaraid2 driver can actually be compiled
into 2.4.x.

This is a patch against 2.4.22-bk30, and it's
necessary to be able to compile megaraid2 and to
get help text from menuconfig.

-thanks-

Those are already in the merged megaraid2

Here go some trivial fixes(add menu entry, list all compatibles
boards in help and put tab instead spaces) for megaraid2.

Great, this is really good news for all of us here owning a LSI MegaRAID
card ! Thank you very much!!

Now will this already go in kernel 2.4.23 ?

megaraid 1.xx gets *very bad* performance. But like 2.4 is stable serie, it
shouldn't be deleted.

megaraid 2.xx gets correct performance, it's stable and it adds support
for _present_ hardware, MegaRAID Ultra320 RAID boards(518, 520, 531, 532).

Having two drivers for the same controller is not a good thing from a user
point of view. I just asked Atul privately but will do so again here: Why
do we need "megaraid2" ?

I think that it is better to also update the driver of 1.18x
in the kernel tree of 2.4.x to the latest version(1.18k).

I would be glad to see megaraid 1.18k and megaraid2 2.00.9 be included
in 2.4.x-stock. These seem stable in our testing thus far. Alan has
had megaraid2 2.00.(something - 5?) in his tree for a while now.

Alan didn't want to lightswitch the 1.18X series driver out during a
stable kernel series, preferring to have both a megaraid and a megaraid2
driver, and let people decide.

> Are they in 2.6 already?

2.6.x has megaraid 2.00.3 in it right now - it needs to be brought up to
2.00.9. There's no reason to have both megaraid and megaraid2 in 2.6.x,
only one 'megaraid' which is 2.00.x.

Atul should be submitting changelogs and patches to James Bottomley and
linux-scsi for inclusion in both 2.4.x and 2.6.x, unless Marcelo asks to
receive them directly.

Thanks,
Matt

kernel driver 1.xx is frozen since Dec-2002. Latest 1.xx _only_ fixes bugs
and adds support for ioctls on amd64. Not too much exciting.

2.xx driver adds support for latest hardware, MegaRAID Ultra320 RAID boards
(518, 520, 531, 532.). It was developed since Nov-2002 and it is included
in Red Hat Enterpise Linux 2.1 since May-2003.

Matt Domsch of Dell now is distribuyed both to their customers.
So they should be ready for official kernel inclusion.

I don't know what is the opinion of other people :-?
Maybe linux-scsi members hold other opinion.

Hello,

It seems that Megaraid does not work with 2.4.22 at least on
my machine. I don't know when it stopped working because I have never used
this SCSI adapter before. During kernel boot magararid's driver generates
nasty opps. This is the output from oops parsed by ksymoops:
