No scan with DViCo FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual Express

I'm using the DViCo card with  Ubuntu 8.10amd64. I've followed the 
various instructions for installing drivers and firmware viz:-
 loaded the drivers(v4l-dvb-b44a3aed3d1.tar.gz) as suggested on 
www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DViCo_FusionHDTV_DVB-T_Dual_Express 
<http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DViCo_FusionHDTV_DVB-T_Dual_Express> 
from linuxtv.org/hg/~stoth/v4l-dvb. I also had to load gspca_m5602.ko in 
/lib/modules/2.6.27-11-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/gspca.

The card wasn't auto-loaded until I added "options cx23885 card=11" to 
/etc/modprobe.d/options.
I obtained xc3028-v27.fw.tar.bz2 via ubuntuforums.org then copied the 
untarred file xc3028-v27.fw to /lib/firmware.

 
Dmesg on startup shows that the card is recognised:-

It's probably a new rev of the card with a new subid, which is why you have to 
force load it.

What does lspci -vn look like? (Show the section specific to the cx23885).

... and it may not have a xc3028 onboard, or may have the low power version 
which is why the firmware fails to load. A few other things come to mind but 
given that the vendor has switch subid details, it's probably best to cross 
reference with the wiki to ensure it still has the same parts.

Assuming the wiki entry truly doesn't exist, maybe you could create it with the 
newer rev details, maybe with some pictures and component details?

If it does have the low power version on board (the xc3028L), do *not*
load the regular firmware or else you will burn out the chip.

If it's a brand new board, you should definitely take some pictures
before trying the regular xc3028 firmware.

Although the card described on the wiki and the card that I own both 
have the same name and have Fusion DVB-T Dual Express Rev:1.1 printed on 
the underside, they are not identical eg:-

Yes and no, they're largely the same. For some reason I thought we'd used the 
3028 firmware with the 3008 in the past, maybe this no longer holds. up.

I'm surprised you're seeing the "Incorrect readback of firmware version" error.

Would any xc3028 guru's like to comment?

I would have to look at the code, but my first guess would probably be
a combination of the tuner still being held in reset along with not
properly detecting a the failure to read the register on the i2c bus
(failing silently).

Can we get a full pastebin of the dmesg output from bootup? (the dmesg
sent was truncated by the user)

Hello John,

Just to be clear, there is no "32 bit" versus "64 bit" version of the
firmware.  It's the same firmware.

I think Christopher is on the right track.  You should try out the
patch he sent and see if it helps.

(Hopefully this email will join the thread - I just joined the list briefly
so I could post.)

I had a few minutes while stuck on a bus and had a look at the code in
v4l-dvb tip.  It appears that the driver there has at least two problems -
it resets the wrong (or no) tuner in the callback and it potentially locks
up the I2C bus through tinkering with the zl10353's gate_control logic.  The
first alone would cause an "incorrect readback of firmware version" message
after the first tune.  The second would explain the device subids
disappearing and your having to use card=11 for the board to be found.

Try the patch at
http://www.itee.uq.edu.au/~chrisp/Linux-DVB/DVICO/dual-digital-express-dvb-t-fix-20090407-1.patch.
 It probably addresses these two issues (it's not even compile tested,
so
if it doesn't build I'm sure you get the idea) and see if it makes any
difference.

Hello Christopher,

I was in the process of getting a tree together so I could issue a
PULL request for this patch.  However, it seems that the server
referenced above hosting the patch is now showing network timeouts.

Could you please re-send the patch to the list directly?  I've got the
Tested-By line from the user (John Knops) and am working on getting an
SOB by stoth so I can issue the PULL request.
