Summary: No front channels on AC3
Description:
I can't hear any sound playing any ac3 track with xine. Same with 2.6.14.3
kernel.

mikma - 12-13-05 12:57

Which alsa-driver version do you use? Check with "cat
/proc/asound/version".
You need to use alsa-driver version 1.0.10 if you use alsa-lib 1.0.10,
since the FX ports used by the front PCM channels in the surround modes
have changed.
You could try /usr/share/alsa/cards/EMU10K1.conf from alsa-lib (libasound2
in Debian) version 1.0.9 instead of upgrading, but I'm not sure it works.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Winterbird - 12-13-05 20:50
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm having a similar problem (no sound from front speakers in 5.1 output),
using alsa and emu10k1 built in kernel (2.6.14-gentoo-r2), and alsa-lib
1.0.10.
# cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.10rc1 (Mon Sep 12
08:13:09 2005 UTC).

assume that would give me a newer version of the alsa drivers (I don't
want to use the external drivers). I'll see if I can find a EMU10K1.conf

The problem should go away if you upgrade alsa-driver to version 1.0.10.
The change of EMU10K1.conf was made in alsa-lib release 1.0.10rc2.
(Using EMU10K1.conf from version 1.0.10rc1, the version before, could be
tried as a work-around if you want to avoid upgrading the alsa-driver).
