OpenBMC GUI navigation -- User vs Security

OpenBMC GUI navigation -- User vs Security

Currently, the OpenBMC GUI has a single sign-on and there is a menu
called Users from which that panel is accessed.

Users
- Manage User Account

Now that we are developing LDAP user management and local user
management, I was thinking we could put them together under a menu
called "Security" that would replace the "Users" menu.

Security
- LDAP User Management
- Local User Management
- SSL Certificate Management (including certificate generation)
- others?

Does anyone have an option about this?

Hi Susan, 
Typically in server management the notion of security is different than user management. Perhaps “Authentication” or “Access Control” or “Access Management” can be a category for the items you list.

+1  "User management" is a very different concept than "Security" and I
would advocate using a different term on the top level menu.

I agree.  I would add that “Access Control” is a generic term (as opposed to “User Management”). This means some other items may potentially fall into this category.

This is the last email I could find on this thread. I would like to
verify we have reached consensus as we are approaching the time to
update the navigational structure from "Users" to "Access Control".
Once the "LDAP Settings" and "Certificate Management" work is
completed, we will be ready for the change.

OpenBMC GUI Navigation Update

We discussed an update to the primary navigation and are planning to
make that change with the release of 3 upcoming features, LDAP,
Certificate Upload and Generate Certificate. There is a review pending
for Certificate Upload and LDAP and Generate Certificate stories are
being worked on currently. Once these features are completed, we plan
to make the following changes:

New Navigation Structure
- Access Control
  - Certificate Management
  - LDAP User Management
  - Local User Management

This is the proposal for how the navigation would look with the new Access
Control section. The icon, a key, is more general than the current 'User'
icon. This leaves room for more features (certificate management) outside
of just users to be represented and is still a good indicator of the types
of tasks that could be found within this category.
