As agreed with David, this is a continuation of his work started at [1].
I didn't pick up his R-b tag for the first patch, since patch has been
heavily modified.
Changes since v1:
- Dropped quotes in $id/$schema
- Sorted out compat strings alphabetically
- Removed obvious descriptions
- Removed undocumented qcom,hdmi-tx-ddc-* properties
- Switched to additionalProperties
- Fixed IRQ and GPIO flags in the schema example
- Added 8084 and 8660 variants to qcom,hdmi-phy-other.yaml conditional
- Marked hdmi-mux-supply as deprecated (and dropped it from
apq8064-ifc6410.dtsi)
- Reused 8960 regulator/clock configs for 8x60 (verified against msm-3.4
kernel)
Changes since his patches:
HDMI schema:
- Dropped generic pinctrl properties
- Dropped data-lanes property, which is not supported by the HDMI driver
- Switched to unevaluatedProperties
- Moved clocks/regulators/supplies to condition clauses
- Specified phy-names as used by existing DT files
- Dropped #phy-cells
- Dropped power-domains property (which is not used by the device trees)
- Marked old GPIO properties as deprecated (in a separate patch)
HDMI PHY schema:
- Split into QMP (msm8996) and non-QMP (other) PHY schemas
- Added proper clocks/clock-names/reg/reg-names descriptions
The rest of the patches consist of the new work. They further cleanup
the platform configs, remove unused supplies, etc.

Convert Qualcomm HDMI binding into HDMI TX and PHY yaml bindings.
Changes to schema:
HDMI:
- fixed reg-names numbering to match 0..3 instead 0,1,3,4
- dropped qcom,tx-ddc-* from example, they were not documented
PHY:
- moved into phy/ directory
- split into QMP and non-QMP PHY schemas

Convert Qualcomm HDMI binding into HDMI TX and PHY yaml bindings.
Changes to schema:
HDMI:
- fixed reg-names numbering to match 0..3 instead 0,1,3,4
- dropped qcom,tx-ddc-* from example, they were not documented
PHY:
- moved into phy/ directory
- split into QMP and non-QMP PHY schemas

Mark obsolete GPIO properties as deprecated. They are not used by
existing device trees. While we are at it, also drop them from the

hdmi-mux-supply is not used by the SoC's HDMI block, it is thought to
power up the external logic. Thus it should not be a part of HDMI
bindings, but it should be declared at some other device in the DT (like

DB820c makes use of core-vcc-supply and core-vdda-supply, however the
driver code doesn't support these regulators. Enable them for HDMI on
8996 platform.

Several platform configs use empty 'none' regulator arrays. They are not
necessary, as the code will use corresponding _cnt field and skip the
array completely. Drop them now.

The MSM HDMI driver has support for hpd_regs on 8x74/8084: supply
regulators that are to be enabled for HPD to work. Currently these
regulators contain the hpd_gdsc, which was replaced by the power-domains
support and hpd-5v/hpd-5v-en, which are not used by the chip itself.
They power up the ESD bridge.
However it is a separate device which should be represented separately
in the device tree.
None of upstreamed devices support these properties. Thus drop support
for them from the HDMI driver.

clock (this is the same config as is used by the 8960).

The 'vdda-supply' name makes me think this is another scenario where the
phy isn't powering on the analog supply when it should be and so the
controller driver is doing it instead. Is that the case here?

Good question. There are different HDMI pins on 8996, with slight
disagreement between the schematics and the datasheet.
vcca_hdmi/vdd_hdmi1: 0.925V, Power for HDMI circuits – low voltage
vdda_hdmi/vdd_hdmi2: 1.8V, Power for HDMI circuits – high voltage
vdda_hdmi_pll/vdd_pll3, 1.8V, Power for PLL circuits
I'm not sure which are required for the PHY and which are required for
the core HDMI. However I'd note that we have a generic tendency of
duplicating pins between the HDMI and the PHY devices. Compare this
with 8064, where core-vdda-supply is also used both by the hdmi-tx and
hdmi-phy devices. I think we unify 8x74/84 with 8996 and allow
powering up the HDMI correctly even if it results in duplication
between the -phy and -tx parts.
